Varanasi Police Commissioner Reviews Ghat Security, Seizes 58 Boats

Varanasi: Police commissioner Mohit Agarwal conducted a foot patrol on Tuesday to review security arrangements at Dashashwamedh Ghat, Godaulia, Namo Ghat, and Assi Ghat areas. Suspicious individuals were interrogated, and a comprehensive assessment of security measures was carried out. Officers were instructed to take strict action against those encroaching on public land. The commissioner emphasized the need for regular updates on security equipment installed at the ghats.

Enhanced Security Measures

He directed the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Water Police to remain vigilant and active. Boatmen were ordered to ensure 100% compliance with prescribed safety standards to protect devotees and tourists. The police commissioner stated, "The safety of devotees, tourists, and the general public visiting the ghats is the top priority of the police. We are strengthening the security apparatus through continuous foot patrolling, intensive surveillance of suspicious persons, and regular review of security arrangements. All officers are directed to ensure security with vigilance, effective policing, and public cooperation."

Crackdown on Violations

Strict action was taken against individuals performing stunts and dangerous acrobatics in ghat areas. All persons engaged in water recreation on the Ganga were reminded that wearing life jackets is mandatory. Effective deep-water barricading has been ensured for the safety of devotees. The Water Police, through periodic intensive checking drives, have registered 31 cases against boatmen flouting rules and seized 58 boats so far.

Operation Chakravyuh

Under 'Operation Chakravyuh,' a campaign against traffic rule violations and encroachment, authorities seized 22 vehicles, issued 529 challans, and imposed a total compounding fee of Rs. 10,62,500. The operation aims to improve traffic discipline and clear public spaces.
