Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police achieved a significant milestone in crime prevention and detection by recovering stolen goods valued at over Rs 1.13 crore in March 2026. The recovered items included gold ornaments, cash, bikes, mobile phones, and other valuables.
Details of Recovery and Arrests
City Police Chief Dr. Shankabrata Bagchi reported that a total of 77 property offenses were recorded in Vizag city during March 2026. The police successfully detected 67 of these cases and arrested 83 property offenders. The recovered property comprises over 926 grams of gold ornaments, more than 3.5 kilograms of silver ornaments, over Rs 4.7 lakh in cash, 12 bikes, one auto-rickshaw, one lorry, and 312 missing or stolen mobile phones. The total value of the recovered items exceeds Rs 1.13 crore.
Recovery Mela and Handover
The police organized a recovery mela on Thursday to return the stolen property to its rightful owners. This initiative not only restores lost assets to victims but also strengthens public trust in law enforcement.
Long-Term Crime Prevention Measures
In the past two years, Vizag city police have recovered a total of 9,899 mobile phones (both stolen and lost) worth Rs 14.84 crore. To prevent future crimes, the department has adopted a multi-faceted approach. In March alone, they installed 656 CCTV cameras across the city, significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities. Additionally, 333 crime awareness meetings were conducted to educate the public about criminal activities and prevention strategies.
Summer Patrol Intensification
The police have decided to intensify special patrolling teams during the summer vacation period. They will also deploy drone-based patrolling to deter potential property offenses. These proactive measures aim to reduce crime rates and ensure public safety.
