A woman who suffered severe burns in an explosion in Punjab's Moga district has succumbed to her injuries after five days of treatment, police officials confirmed on Wednesday.
Incident Details
The incident occurred on Friday in the village of Dharamkot, where the woman, identified as 32-year-old Gurpreet Kaur, was working in her kitchen when a sudden explosion took place. Neighbors rushed her to a nearby hospital, from where she was later referred to a larger facility in Ludhiana due to the extent of her burns.
Medical Treatment
Doctors stated that Gurpreet had suffered over 70% burns on her body. Despite intensive care and multiple surgeries, her condition deteriorated, and she died on Wednesday morning. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with initial reports suggesting a possible gas cylinder leak.
Police Investigation
Station House Officer (SHO) of Dharamkot police station, Inspector Jaswant Singh, said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. "We are waiting for the forensic report to determine the exact cause of the explosion. No foul play is suspected at this stage," he added.
Family Reaction
The victim's husband, Balwinder Singh, expressed grief and demanded a thorough investigation. He claimed that the cylinder was recently serviced and might have been faulty. The family has been provided with financial assistance by the local administration.
This tragedy highlights the need for stricter safety regulations regarding domestic gas cylinders. Authorities have urged residents to ensure regular maintenance of such equipment to prevent similar incidents.
