A 56-year-old woman tragically lost her life after falling into an uncovered manhole in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The incident occurred on Monday, May 16, at approximately 11:19 p.m. local time, just outside the Cartier store located at 653 Fifth Avenue. The woman had stepped out of her parked Mercedes-Benz when she plunged approximately 10 feet into a Con Edison manhole.
Emergency Response and Death
First responders discovered the woman unconscious and unresponsive inside the manhole. She was immediately rushed to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead, according to police officials.
