A tragic incident occurred in the Hari Vihar area of Subhash Colony, Ballabgarh, in Faridabad district on Wednesday morning, where a 55-year-old woman lost her life after the chajja (overhanging balcony) of a house collapsed. The deceased has been identified as Jayavati.
According to police reports, the incident took place around 6 am when Jayavati entered the bathroom constructed on the balcony. As soon as she stepped inside, the entire structure, including the balcony, gave way, trapping her under the debris. She sustained severe injuries in the collapse.
Family members and neighbors quickly rushed to the scene and began clearing the debris to rescue her. However, by the time they managed to pull her out, she had already passed away.
Family in Shock
The deceased's daughter, Sangeeta, who had come to her mother's house for summer holidays along with her two sisters, expressed their grief. She stated that they had already lost their father, and now this tragedy has left the entire family in shock. The sisters were visiting their mother during the summer break when the incident occurred.
Police Investigation
Adarsh Nagar police reached the spot soon after the incident and inspected the site. Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of Adarsh Nagar police station, said, "We took the woman's body into custody and sent it to BK Hospital for a post-mortem examination." The police are investigating the cause of the collapse and have registered a case.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of old and poorly maintained structures in the area. Local residents have urged the authorities to conduct a thorough inspection of similar buildings to prevent such tragedies in the future.
