Yogi Government Announces Major Honorarium Hike for Shiksha Mitras and Anudeshaks
In a significant move aimed at bolstering the education sector and supporting contractual educators, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a substantial increase in the monthly honorarium for shiksha mitras (contractual para teachers) and anudeshaks (instructors). The decision, announced on Friday, has been widely welcomed by the beneficiaries, who have expressed gratitude for the financial relief it brings.
Details of the Honorarium Increase
The state government has raised the honorarium for shiksha mitras from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 per month, marking an 80% hike. Similarly, the honorarium for anudeshaks has been increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 17,000 per month, representing an 88.9% rise. This move impacts a total of 1.43 lakh shiksha mitras and 24,781 anudeshaks across Uttar Pradesh, collectively benefiting over 1.67 lakh contractual educators.
Reactions from Beneficiaries
Shiksha mitras and anudeshaks have hailed the Yogi government for this initiative, citing its positive impact on their daily lives. A shiksha mitra from Moradabad shared, "Inflation has severely impacted our households. Managing expenses with just Rs 10,000 was incredibly challenging. This hike will provide much-needed financial stability."
Sukhjit Singh from Ayodhya echoed similar sentiments, stating, "The additional income will significantly improve our quality of life, allowing us to better support our families." Another shiksha mitra, Hina Kausar, emphasized that the better pay will keep her motivated and dedicated to her work.
Further endorsing the move, shiksha mitras Surbhi Gupta and Sarita Varshney remarked, "This increase ensures a better standard of living for us. It boosts our confidence and enhances our efficiency in delivering quality education."
Financial Implications and Government Statement
The honorarium hike is expected to impose an additional financial burden of over Rs 1,480 crore. This cost will be shared between the state and central governments, reflecting a collaborative effort to strengthen the education framework.
A government spokesperson highlighted the broader objective behind the decision, stating, "Better compensation for our educators will directly contribute to strengthening the quality of education, particularly in rural and remote areas where their role is crucial." This move is seen as a step towards addressing the challenges faced by contractual teachers and improving educational outcomes across the state.
