Patna: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday night in the Tarachak area under Danapur police station in Patna district, where a 16-year-old boy lost his life and two others sustained injuries during a shootout between two rival groups. The police swiftly responded, conducting raids at multiple locations and apprehending 12 suspects within 12 hours of the incident.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Nitin Kumar (16), son of the late Vidya Rai, a resident of Mustafapur in Bihta. He suffered gunshot wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment. The two injured individuals have been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for further medical care.
Details of the Incident
The shootout occurred around 10 PM when members of opposing groups opened fire at each other. According to police, the clash stemmed from an old enmity between the two factions. Earlier in the evening, one group allegedly assaulted members of the other near Sainik Chowk, prompting the latter to retaliate with gunfire.
Police Action and Arrests
City Superintendent of Police (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh arrived at the scene with his team and formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after registering a case at Danapur police station. Within 12 hours, the SIT arrested 12 individuals involved in the shootout. The arrested suspects include Utkarsh Kumar, Harsh Kumar, Rishu Kumar, Shantanu Kumar, Jayant Kumar alias Janu, Prince Kumar, Ashutosh Kumar, Badal Kumar, Deepak Kumar, Shivranjan Kumar, Shubham Kumar, and Sonu Kumar.
During the arrests, police recovered a country-made pistol, five live cartridges, three motorcycles, and nine mobile phones from their possession.
Evidence Collection and Investigation
The Superintendent of Police stated that the body has been sent for postmortem examination. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Further investigation is underway, and authorities have assured that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
