Apple is preparing to launch its first-ever foldable iPhone, codenamed iPhone Fold, at the company's annual fall event, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series. This marks a significant milestone for the tech giant as it enters the foldable smartphone market.
Key Features of the iPhone Fold
The iPhone Fold will feature a notebook-style design with a 5.3-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch main screen. When folded, the device measures 9.8mm in thickness, and when unfolded, it offers a large, immersive display. The foldable device will boast a titanium-based hinge, a 4.9mm thickness when folded, and a flexible OLED panel with no visible crease, ensuring a seamless user experience.
iPhone 18 Pro Upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will see minor design changes, including thicker dimensions to accommodate a larger battery and upgraded camera sensors. New colour options will also be introduced. Both the iPhone 18 Pro series and the iPhone Fold are expected to feature a powerful 2nm class A20 Pro chipset, delivering enhanced performance and efficiency.
Staggered Launch Strategy
Apple plans to release the standard iPhone 18 in spring 2027, alongside the iPhone 18e and iPhone Air 2. This staggered approach aims to reduce supply chain and marketing pressures. The iPhone 18 Pro series is expected to launch in the second or third week of September 2026.
Additional Details
The iPhone Air, which will be part of the lineup, has a thickness of just 5.6mm, making it one of the thinnest iPhones ever. The foldable iPhone's design emphasizes durability and aesthetics, with the titanium hinge ensuring long-term reliability. Apple's entry into the foldable market is expected to intensify competition with rivals like Samsung and Huawei.
