The Tamil Nadu state government has transferred 19 police personnel, including officers who were on duty during the Karur stampede last year. Among those transferred are three Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs): Karur town DSP Selvaraj has been posted to Tuticorin district, Kulithalai DSP Senthil Kumar has been transferred to Cuddalore district, and Aravakurichi DSP Abdul Ghafoor has been posted to Dharmapuri district.
Inspectors and Lower Ranks Affected
Ten police inspectors, including CID inspector Manivannan and Karur town inspector Arul Prakash, have also been transferred. Additionally, five head constables and one sub-inspector have been shifted to other locations. Sources indicate that many of the transferred personnel were part of the police force deployed during the stampede tragedy that occurred in Karur on September 27 last year.
Background of the Incident
The stampede, which took place during a religious event, resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. The transfers are seen as part of an administrative reshuffle following the incident. The affected officers will now serve in different districts across Tamil Nadu.
This move comes as authorities continue to review the response to the tragedy and implement measures to prevent future occurrences. The transfers are effective immediately, and the officers are expected to report to their new postings shortly.
