Shocking Attack on AAP Leader's Residence

In a brazen pre-dawn attack, two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire at the house of a prominent Aam Aadmi Party leader near Darvesh Pind village on the Phagwara-Jandiala road early Thursday. The incident occurred around 1:13 am, sending shockwaves through the local community.

According to police officials, approximately 23 rounds were fired at the residence of Daljit Singh Raju, who serves as the Phagwara coordinator for the ruling AAP's 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign against drugs. Fortunately, no one was injured in the terrifying incident, though the property sustained significant damage with window and door panes shattered by the gunfire.

Police Response and Investigation

Phagwara Sub divisional Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma confirmed the details to reporters, stating that CCTV footage is being examined and police forces have been deployed at the site. "Raids are being conducted and all angles of the incident are being investigated thoroughly," Sharma assured, adding "We are taking full stock of the situation and will soon nab the miscreants."

In a significant development, a hand-written slip was discovered at the crime scene. Sources revealed that the note, written in English, mentioned the name of a certain group as well as an amount of ₹5 crore. This discovery has added a new dimension to the investigation, though police are examining all possible motives.

Eyewitness Account of the Terrifying Ordeal

Daljit Singh Raju provided chilling details of the attack, describing how two armed men arrived on a motorcycle, parked their vehicle at a distance, and then walked up to his house before opening fire. "First I thought that some firecrackers were being burst but then my wife saw that two men were firing at the house," Raju recounted.

The AAP leader immediately contacted the police after realizing the gravity of the situation. When questioned about potential motives, Raju asserted that he has neither any enmity with anybody nor has he received any ransom calls prior to this incident.

Raju is considered a close confidante of Hoshiarpur MP Raj Kumar Chabbewal, adding political significance to the attack. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of political workers involved in anti-drug campaigns across Punjab.

As the investigation continues, local authorities have intensified security measures in the area while pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind this alarming attack.
