Mapusa: Ahead of the monsoon season, a joint re-inspection drive led by Bardez deputy collector Varsha Parab has identified 49 structurally unsafe and dangerous buildings within Mapusa municipal limits. The special inspection, initiated on the orders of the North Goa district collector, aimed to assess structural stability and prevent potential collapses or mishaps during heavy rains.
Details of the Inspection
The identified structures comprise 42 private buildings and seven government buildings. Officials from the Mapusa Municipal Council’s building department and the Public Works Department (PWD) conducted structural inspections of the properties to review their current state of stability. Following the inspection, authorities have initiated strict safety protocols.
Actions Taken
The Mapusa Municipal Council is in the process of issuing fresh vacation notices to the owners and occupants of the 42 compromised private buildings. For structures that remain occupied or in active use, occupants are being ordered to vacate the premises immediately. Meanwhile, owners of other vacant but weak buildings have been directed to implement urgent safety measures or carry out necessary structural repairs.
The drive underscores the importance of proactive measures to ensure public safety during the monsoon, which often brings heavy rainfall and increased risk of building collapses. Authorities have urged all stakeholders to comply with the directives to prevent any untoward incidents.
