In a significant push for infrastructure development in the Kodagu district, the state government has sanctioned substantial funds for comprehensive road repair and construction works in Virajpet. The announcement was made by Virajpet MLA and Chief Minister's legal adviser, Ajjikuttira S Ponnanna, who urged executing authorities to begin the crucial works without any delay.
New Roads Inaugurated, Major Funds Allocated
MLA Ponnanna kick-started the development drive by inaugurating two newly constructed concrete roads within the Virajpet Municipality limits. The first, located in Gandhi Nagar, was built at a cost of ₹12 lakh. The second, in Kirti Layout, required an investment of ₹10 lakh. Addressing residents during the inaugurations, the MLA provided assurances that the pervasive issue of potholes across town roads would be addressed promptly.
He confirmed that funds have already been released for the development of main roads, and the work orders will be executed immediately. Ponnanna attributed the current poor state of many roads in both town and rural areas to the heavy rainfall experienced this year. While some rural stretches have already received fresh asphalt, the spotlight is now on Virajpet town's main artery.
₹5.6 Crore Project for Town Main Road
The centerpiece of the development plan is the major overhaul of the main road within Virajpet town. For this critical project, the government has allocated a substantial sum of ₹5.6 crore. Ponnanna stated that work on this important stretch will now commence in earnest, aiming to provide long-lasting relief to commuters and residents.
Following the announcements, the MLA took a proactive step by conducting an inspection tour of several major roads inside the municipality. He was accompanied by a team of officials, whom he advised to expedite all planned works to ensure timely completion.
Drinking Water Pipeline Work in Progress
In addition to road works, Ponnanna shared an update on another vital utility project. He informed that the installation of drinking water pipelines along the Virajpet–Madikeri road is currently underway. This project aims to enhance the water supply infrastructure for the region, addressing a key civic need alongside the transportation upgrades.
The events and inspections were attended by key local officials, including TMC chief officer PK Nachappa and engineer NP Hemkumar, among others, underscoring the coordinated effort behind these infrastructure initiatives.
