Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday strongly criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) decision to privatise its open school plots for a 30-year period. He expressed concern that most private players involved would be builders, leading to potential misuse of public land.
Thackeray's Objections
In a statement, Thackeray argued that instead of privatising these plots, the BMC should take back schools and plots that have been captured by private institutes. He emphasised the need to protect public assets and ensure they serve the community's educational needs.
Political Reactions
BJP corporator Rohan Rathod had earlier raised objections to the privatisation plan, aligning with Thackeray's concerns. The issue highlights growing political friction over the management of civic resources in Mumbai.
The BMC's proposal has sparked debate among local leaders and citizens, with many questioning the long-term impact on education and urban development. Thackeray's remarks add to the mounting pressure on the civic body to reconsider its strategy.
