Punjab AAP Leader's Residence Targeted in Brazen Attack

In a shocking incident that has raised serious security concerns, unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants launched a violent attack at the residence of Aam Aadmi Party leader Daljit Raju Darvesh in Punjab during the early hours of Thursday. The attackers fired approximately 20 rounds of bullets at the house located in Phagwara, Kapurthala district, around 1 am, creating panic in the neighborhood.

Extortion Notes and Gang Connection Revealed

According to police officials investigating the case, the attackers left behind extortion notes demanding ₹5 crore before fleeing the scene. The recovery of these notes has provided a crucial lead in the investigation, as they bear the name of the notorious Raja Kala gang, indicating possible involvement of organized crime elements in the attack.

The entire terrifying incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed near Darvesh's residence. The footage shows the assailants firing repeatedly at the property and even reloading their weapons midway through the attack, demonstrating their preparedness and determination. Police forensic teams have confirmed that the shots were fired using a .45 bore pistol, and multiple spent shells have been recovered from the scene as evidence.

Political Profile and Security Implications

Daljit Raju Darvesh is considered an influential political figure in Kapurthala's Phagwara region and currently serves as a 'War on Drugs' coordinator in the area. His political journey includes significant stints with the Congress party, where he previously served as the district president of Kapurthala and headed the Dehati (Rural) Congress in the region.

After joining the AAP, Darvesh has maintained his political influence, particularly in rural areas of Phagwara, and is known to be close to former minister Joginder Singh Mann. He is also regarded as a trusted associate of MP Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal, making this attack particularly significant in the political landscape.

Police Response and Political Reactions

Following the attack, SHO of the Sadar Police Station immediately reached the spot with his team and began scanning CCTV footage from surrounding areas. Madhavi Sharma, Superintendent of Police in Phagwara, has formed multiple police teams to trace the attackers and assured that the culprits would be arrested soon.

The incident has triggered strong political reactions, with Congress MLA from Phagwara, Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, alleging in his social media post that there has been a massive law and order failure in Phagwara. Dhaliwal demanded swift action against the culprits and emphasized the urgent need for stronger policing to protect citizens.

Police have seized all evidence from the crime scene and initiated a detailed investigation. The recovery of four pieces of paper, each containing the extortion demand for ₹5 crore, has become a focal point in understanding the motives behind this brazen attack on a prominent political figure.
