Ahmedabad AAP Member Detained in Major Liquor Raid

In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the Ahmedabad crime branch detained a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with approximately 10 litres of country liquor during a raid in the Amraiwadi area on Saturday. Police officials confirmed that the individual had previously contested elections for the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) as a candidate for AAP, highlighting the political dimensions of the incident.

Police Action Based on Tip-Off

According to authorities, the crime branch team was conducting routine patrols across various parts of the city to curb prohibited activities such as illegal liquor trade and gambling. The operation intensified when officers received a credible tip-off from a source. The information indicated that a man was allegedly selling country liquor in public near the Vanzara Samaj Vadi area in the Shivanandnagar locality of Amraiwadi.

Acting swiftly on this input, the police team called two independent witnesses to ensure transparency and conducted a raid at the specified location. Upon arrival, officers noticed a man sitting with a bag and identified him based on the received information. The team immediately detained him and proceeded with a thorough search in the presence of the witnesses.

Seizure of Illicit Liquor

During the search, police discovered a plastic bag containing 20 small polythene packets filled with liquid. When the packets were opened, a strong smell of country liquor emanated, confirming the contents. Each packet contained about 500ml of liquor, resulting in a total seizure of 10 litres. Police estimated the value of the confiscated liquor to be around Rs 2,000.

Officers then asked the detained man to produce a valid permit or license for possessing or selling liquor. However, he reportedly failed to provide any documents, leading to the seizure of the illicit alcohol. The incident underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal trade in the region.

This case adds to a series of enforcement actions in Ahmedabad aimed at maintaining public order and safety. The involvement of a political figure has drawn attention, raising questions about compliance with regulations among party members. Police have not disclosed further details about potential charges or legal proceedings at this time.
