AAP MLA Raan Arora's Security Restored in Jalandhar

Jalandhar Central AAP MLA Raan Arora's security was restored on Friday evening, nearly 10 months after it was withdrawn. His security had been removed in the second week of May 13 last year, and on May 23 he was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau in a corruption case.

Arora was in Chandigarh attending the Assembly session when police personnel and a vehicle arrived at his residence. "I was in Chandigarh and on my way back I got a call from my family that police personnel have arrived at my home to provide security," he said while speaking to TOI on Friday evening. Police officials confirmed that four police personnel were deployed with him.

After Arora's arrest, the AAP appointed Jalandhar-based industrialist Nitin Kohli as constituency in-charge of the state assembly. Earlier, Arora had around a dozen Punjab Police personnel, three times more than typically deployed with an MLA, but on May 13, 2025, all were withdrawn.

The Vigilance Bureau arrested Arora after registering a case against assistant town planner Sukhdev Vashisht following a complaint. In the corruption case, the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him bail on September 3, but before his release from Nabha jail, Jalandhar Commissionerate police brought him on a production warrant in an extortion case registered against him on August 23. In the extortion case, he was granted bail by a court in Jalandhar on September 22 last year.
