AAP Vows to Boycott Delhi Assembly Budget Session Over Suspended MLAs

In a dramatic escalation of political tensions, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced it will boycott the upcoming Budget session of the Delhi Assembly if the suspension of four of its legislators is not revoked. Leader of Opposition Atishi made this declaration during a press conference on Sunday, just ahead of the session's commencement.

Atishi Accuses BJP of Muzzling Opposition Through Suspensions

Atishi, addressing the media, alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is systematically suppressing the AAP's voice in the Assembly through privilege notices and suspensions. She revealed that she herself has been served four privilege notices, highlighting what she termed as an unconstitutional crackdown on the opposition.

The four suspended AAP MLAs are Sanjeev Jha, Kuldeep Kumar, Somdutt, and Jarnail Singh. According to Atishi, these legislators were suspended during the previous session and subsequently removed from the official WhatsApp group comprising all 70 Delhi MLAs. She further claimed that Kuldeep Kumar, a member of the Delhi Assembly's Public Accounts Committee, has been excluded from committee meetings and denied access to draft reports.

"If the unconstitutional suspension of the four MLAs is not revoked, then none of the AAP MLAs will participate in the upcoming session," Atishi stated emphatically.

BJP Hits Back, Cites Focus on Governance Over Politics

In a swift rebuttal, the BJP dismissed Atishi's allegations. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva asserted that Atishi is unable to digest the fact that the Assembly is now prioritizing legislative business over political speeches. He emphasized that for the first time, bills are being passed, and issues of public importance specific to Delhi are being actively raised and addressed.

"The previous AAP government only used the Assembly to give political speeches instead of understanding the issues of Delhi and forming policies to run Delhi in an efficient way," Sachdeva remarked. He contrasted this with the current focus on governance and policy-making under the BJP's leadership.

Atishi Warns of Mass Protests if Opposition Voice is Suppressed

Escalating her stance, Atishi warned that if the opposition's voice continues to be suppressed, the AAP will mobilize lakhs of people and take to the streets in protest. This threat underscores the deepening rift between the ruling BJP and the opposition AAP in the Delhi Assembly, where the BJP holds 48 seats compared to AAP's 22.

The political standoff sets the stage for a contentious Budget session, with the AAP's boycott threat potentially disrupting legislative proceedings. The situation highlights ongoing tensions in Delhi's political landscape, where accusations of procedural misuse and opposition stifling are becoming increasingly frequent.

As the session approaches, all eyes are on whether the suspensions will be revoked or if the AAP will follow through on its boycott, potentially leading to widespread protests and further political instability in the national capital.
