AAP Expands Kerala Footprint with Ernakulam Candidate Announcements
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made a significant move in Kerala politics on Wednesday by announcing candidates for six constituencies in Ernakulam district ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Party leaders emphasized that after establishing successful governance models in Delhi and Punjab, AAP is now focused on initiating substantial political change in Kerala.
Comprehensive Candidate Selection Strategy
According to party officials, AAP is fielding popular faces from diverse sections of society with the primary objectives of establishing corruption-free governance and advancing people's welfare. The party has identified candidates for a total of 43 constituencies across Kerala, with the remaining names scheduled for announcement within the next two days.
The announced candidates for Ernakulam constituencies include:
- Moses H M (Ernakulam constituency)
- Jose Chiramel (Angamaly constituency)
- Eldho Abraham (Piravom constituency)
- Jose George (Thrikkakara constituency)
- Shamsu T K (Kalamassery constituency)
- Hakkikat Hameed (Aluva constituency)
- Noushad Randarkara (Muvattupuzha constituency)
Twenty20 NDA Strengthens Candidate Roster
In a parallel development, Twenty20 President Sabu M Jacob announced two additional candidates during a function in Kochi on Wednesday. The political landscape saw the entry of dancer, actress, and entrepreneur Anitha Thomas as the Twenty20 NDA candidate for Vypeen constituency.
Thomas, a Kochi native and patron of the Cochin College Alumni Association, brings social activism experience to her political debut. She previously contested in the Ravipuram division of Kochi corporation during the last local body elections, making this her first assembly election attempt. Jacob confidently stated that Vypeen represents one of NDA's guaranteed constituencies in the upcoming elections.
Legal Expertise Enters Political Arena
The second candidate announced by Twenty20 NDA is senior lawyer Roy A Varikkatt, who will contest from Thodupuzha constituency. Varikkatt is recognized as the architect of the Mullaperiyar protection committee and brings decades of public service experience to his candidacy.
His political journey began during his college years when he was elected union chairman of Thodupuzha Newman College during his second-year degree course. Since 1980, Varikkatt has maintained active involvement in Thodupuzha's social and political spheres, establishing strong community connections over four decades.
The simultaneous candidate announcements from both AAP and Twenty20 NDA indicate intensifying political competition in Kerala as parties position themselves for the crucial assembly elections. With AAP emphasizing its governance track record from other states and Twenty20 NDA fielding candidates with diverse professional backgrounds, voters in Ernakulam district face interesting choices between established political approaches and emerging alternatives.
