AAP Workers Detained Over Rajkot Bridge Inauguration

Approximately 15 workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were detained by police in Rajkot on Saturday after they organized a protest and conducted a “symbolic inauguration” of the Sandhya Bridge on the Rajkot-Jamnagar road.

Bridge Completed but Not Opened

According to a statement from the party, the bridge has been fully constructed but remains closed to the public under the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration. In response, AAP workers took matters into their own hands, demanding that the “bridge built with people’s money” be opened immediately. The railway overbridge, which cost Rs 74 crore, is expected to benefit approximately 1.50 lakh commuters daily.

AAP Criticizes BJP Government

“AAP leaders criticized the BJP government for its negligence and hypocrisy, pointing out that while the ruling party preaches about saving petrol and diesel, their decision to postpone the inauguration has forced citizens to take long, frustrating detours. The party highlighted that this unnecessary delay is leading to a massive waste of the public’s time, fuel, and money,” the statement said.

AAP Rajkot city president Dinesh Joshi stated that the BJP rulers are too occupied with their own events and “do not have time,” leaving ordinary citizens to suffer daily inconvenience. He insisted that a completed public infrastructure project should not be delayed merely for an official political ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Reason for Delay

According to sources, the inauguration has been delayed because the new office bearers of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) have yet to be appointed by the BJP state leadership, nearly a month after the election results were declared.
