Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee Launches Aggressive Nandigram Campaign, Vows to Reclaim Lost Ground

In a fiery address to party workers in Nandigram, Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday made a bold commitment to reclaim the constituency, framing the upcoming electoral battle as a decisive moment for the region. Speaking with urgency, Banerjee declared, "Nandigram is my responsibility. All of you take responsibility for the coming 25 days. For the next five years, I will be responsible for Nandigram."

Direct Attack on Suvendu Adhikari as an Outsider

Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, labeling him an outsider and questioning his presence and performance in the constituency. "We have fielded someone who stays in the area, unlike Suvendu," he asserted. "The local MLA is nowhere to be seen... Let him provide a work report card for his constituency." This verbal assault comes as Trinamool has strategically fielded Pabitra Kar, a former aide of Adhikari, in a clear bid to dent the opposition leader's influence in key panchayat areas.

Call to Action for Party Workers and Booth-Level Strategy

Emphasizing the critical nature of the contest, Banerjee called it a battle to "purify the land of Nandigram" and urged workers not to fear. "I am here... We must respond in the language they understand. Not an inch of land will be given up. Fight. Take responsibility," he proclaimed. He specifically instructed workers to focus on improving performance in booths where the party fared poorly in both the 2021 Assembly elections and the 2024 polls, noting that the 2021 election result case remains pending in court.

Campaign Momentum and Legal Developments

Banerjee's visit to Birulia signaled an aggressive push in the campaign, coming just days after a significant legal development. A special CBI court in Haldia allowed the bail of 20 Trinamool leaders, including Abu Taher, Sheikh Sufiyan, and Sayem Kazi, to continue, enabling them to actively participate in the party's poll machinery. This case relates to the death of BJP supporter Debabrata Maiti in Chillogram following post-poll violence in May 2021, with the probe taken over by the CBI on Calcutta High Court orders, leading to multiple arrests.

Vision for Nandigram: Drawing Parallels with Diamond Harbour

Outlining his ambitious plans for the constituency, Banerjee pledged to replicate his success in Diamond Harbour. "I will do for Nandigram what I have done for Diamond Harbour. Every panchayat will have a service center," he promised. He emphasized the need for rapid development, stating, "Nandigram cannot move at a five-kilometre speed; it must run at a 120-kilometre speed like Diamond Harbour." Banerjee framed the election as crucial for local autonomy, warning that winning here is essential to prevent Delhi from taking control of the region.

He directed workers to engage deeply at the grassroots level: "Go to each booth. Make a list of what is needed and what people want." This hands-on approach underscores Trinamool's strategy to consolidate support through direct engagement and service delivery, positioning the party as the true representative of Nandigram's interests against what Banerjee portrays as absentee opposition leadership.
