The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest outside the vice-chancellor's office at the University of Rajasthan on Wednesday, opposing the fee hike for the academic session 2026-27 and highlighting the lack of basic amenities on campus.
Students Voice Concerns
Protesting students brought a bowl of vegetables to symbolize their farming backgrounds, emphasizing that regular fee increases are unaffordable for them. Key demands included the reinstatement of student union elections, withdrawal of the fee hike, provision of cold drinking water, timely completion of entrance exams and result declarations, and full operationalization of the Bhimrao Ambedkar Library. They also called for urgent repairs to dilapidated library buildings before the monsoon season.
ABVP Leaders Speak Out
Bharat Bhushan Yadav, an ABVP functionary, criticized the university for continuously raising fees while depriving students of basic facilities. He noted, "There is an inadequate supply of drinking water on campus, and several buildings are in poor condition. Incidents of plaster falling from ceilings are frequently reported in student areas." Neeraj Khichad, another ABVP leader, urged the administration to address student concerns promptly, stating, "We will continue to raise these issues until concrete action is taken."
Brief Tension During Protest
The otherwise peaceful demonstration saw a brief escalation when some protesters attempted to climb the gates of the vice-chancellor's office and pushed past police personnel. Police intervened with mild force to disperse the crowd.
ABVP has warned of another protest in the coming days if the university administration fails to make a positive decision regarding the students' demands.
