Activists have urged the Karnataka government to stop the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in its current form and extend the time limit for filing appeals to six months. The group emphasized that Karnataka must prepare an independent voters' list and take up the issue of revision seriously.
Demands for Social Auditing
The activists stated that the revision of the voters' list must be carried out as per social auditing norms. They argued that the current process lacks transparency and does not allow sufficient time for citizens to raise objections or file appeals.
Call for Extended Appeal Period
One of the key demands is to increase the appeal time limit from the existing period to six months. This, according to the activists, would enable greater public participation and ensure that eligible voters are not disenfranchised due to procedural lapses.
The group also stressed the need for an independent voters' list, separate from any political influence, to maintain the integrity of the electoral process. They urged the government to take immediate steps to address these concerns before proceeding with further revisions.
This development comes as Karnataka prepares for upcoming elections, with civil society groups closely monitoring the electoral roll revision process.
