Agra Teen Dies by Suicide After Alleged Harassment

A 17-year-old girl, who recently passed her intermediate examinations and applied for admission to a BSc course, allegedly died by suicide at her home in Agra's Tajganj area. Her family has accused a neighbourhood youth of harassing and stalking her for over a year and putting pressure on her to befriend him, police said on Wednesday.

Incident Details

The girl was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a storeroom on Tuesday after having breakfast with her family. Based on a complaint filed by her father, who works at a hotel, an FIR was lodged against the accused, Rohan, under BNS Section 105 (abetment of suicide), said ACP Tajganj Mayank Tiwari. 'The matter is being investigated, and further action will be taken based on evidence,' the officer said.

Family Allegations

The family alleged that despite repeated objections and attempts to counsel the youth and his family, he did not stop harassing the girl. The father claimed that the accused had also threatened to harm family members and warned that he would defame the girl if she refused to comply. 'She had been living under constant fear and stress because of his behaviour,' a family member said.
