Ahmedabad Riverfront Road closed Dec 7 for BAPS event

Ahmedabad police have announced a major traffic diversion for this weekend. A section of the city's prominent Western Riverfront Road will be completely shut down to facilitate a large-scale religious event.

Road Closure Details and Event Information

The Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police issued an official notification on Thursday, December 5, 2024. It states that the stretch of Western Riverfront Road between Vadaj Crematorium and Ambedkar Bridge will remain closed. The closure is scheduled for Saturday, December 7, starting from 12 noon.

The road will reopen only after the conclusion of a special programme organised by BAPS (Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha). The event is being held at the Event Centre to commemorate a significant milestone: the 75th anniversary of Bhramaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj becoming the head of the religious order.

Official Alternate Route for Commuters

To manage the expected traffic disruption, authorities have designated a clear detour. Motorists and commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

The official alternate route is as follows:

  • From Vadaj Crematorium, vehicles should take the cut towards Vadaj Circle.
  • From Vadaj Circle, proceed to Usmanpura.
  • Then, take the Income Tax Overbridge towards the Bata Showroom.
  • Continue from there towards Townhall and finally to Anjali Crossroads.

This route is expected to help disperse traffic and minimize congestion in the affected zone during the event hours.

Planning Your Travel in Ahmedabad

Residents and visitors traveling in the western part of Ahmedabad on Saturday afternoon should factor in extra time for their commutes. The closure impacts a key artery along the Sabarmati Riverfront, a area often used for through traffic.

Adhering to the police notification and using the suggested alternate route will ensure smoother traffic flow and prevent unnecessary delays. The event is a one-day occurrence, and normal traffic patterns are expected to resume after the programme concludes.
