AIADMK and BJP Leaders Condemn TVK Functionary's Remarks on Rajinikanth

In a significant political development in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran have strongly condemned remarks made by TVK general secretary Aadhav Arjuna regarding actor Rajinikanth's political aspirations. The controversy erupted after Arjuna suggested that Rajinikanth abandoned plans to launch a political party due to pressure from the DMK, a claim that has drawn sharp criticism from rival political camps.

EPS Denounces Politicization of Rajinikanth's Personal Choice

Edappadi K Palaniswami, commonly known as EPS, took to social media platform X to express his disapproval. "Superstar Rajinikanth commands immense respect across the spectrum for his abilities and talent. A TVK party functionary's attack on such a personality is unacceptable," EPS stated emphatically in his post. He further elaborated on the fundamental right of individuals to choose their political path, or lack thereof.

"Entering politics is one's right, as is staying out. He (Rajinikanth) cited valid reasons for staying out. Respect that choice; politicizing it is political incivility," EPS added, highlighting the need for political decorum. The AIADMK leader also recalled Rajinikanth's esteemed relationships within the political arena, noting that the actor had earned the love of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran and the respect of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.

BJP Demands Apology, Highlights Rajinikanth's National Stature

BJP Tamil Nadu chief Nainar Nagenthran joined the chorus of condemnation, demanding an apology from Aadhav Arjuna. In his own X post, Nagenthran emphasized Rajinikanth's unparalleled stature, stating that the actor, who has completed more than five decades in cinema, is respected across political and social spheres and enjoys the affection of people cutting across caste, religion, and language.

"It is unacceptable for Mr. Aadhav Arjuna to speak wrongly about such a dignified personality in public," Nagenthran asserted. He meticulously listed the numerous honors bestowed upon Rajinikanth, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Bhushan, and the Padma Vibhushan, underscoring his national recognition.

Nagenthran also pointed out that Rajinikanth enjoys the respect of national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged TVK president Vijay to intervene in the matter, stating, "The leader of that party should condemn such remarks and advise him not to engage in such actions."

Background of the Controversial Remarks

The political firestorm was ignited last week when Aadhav Arjuna alleged that actor Rajinikanth faced pressure from the DMK when he attempted to enter politics, suggesting that such intimidation discouraged him from pursuing a political career. Arjuna contrasted this with TVK president Vijay, whom he claimed showed the resolve to withstand similar pressure.

These remarks have not only drawn reactions from political leaders but have also mobilized sections of Rajinikanth's supporters. In a show of solidarity, his fan clubs in Madurai announced that they will contest against Aadhav Arjuna in the 2026 polls to defeat him and demonstrate Rajinikanth's enduring strength and popularity.

The statement from EPS comes precisely four days after Aadhav Arjuna made the controversial comparison between Rajinikanth and Vijay, further fueling the political discourse in Tamil Nadu. This incident highlights the sensitive intersection of cinema and politics in the state, where personalities like Rajinikanth wield significant influence beyond the silver screen.
