Several AIADMK councillors jointly submitted a petition to the Madurai range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) on Friday, seeking an expedited investigation into a complaint alleging financial irregularities in the Madurai corporation.
Allegations of biased investigation
The councillors, led by Solai Raja, the opposition leader of the Madurai corporation council, alleged that the investigation conducted during the previous DMK regime was unsatisfactory and carried out with the sole purpose of protecting those involved. They claimed that the probe lacked transparency and failed to hold accountable individuals responsible for the irregularities.
Demand for impartial probe
After the formation of the new government, the councillors demanded that an impartial and transparent investigation be conducted into the corporation's ₹200-crore property tax irregularity complaint. Raja emphasized that the investigation must identify the real culprits and ensure appropriate legal action against them.
Recovery of public funds
Raja stated, "Whoever is involved in this, action must be taken against them according to the law without partiality. If the tax money of the public has been used irregularly, action must be taken to recover that fund and return it to the corporation." The petition underscores the need for accountability and the recovery of any misused funds to restore public trust in the municipal administration.
