AIADMK Denies Alliance Talks with TVK, Focuses on 2026 Poll Preparations
In a significant development, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has firmly stated that the party is not engaged in any alliance discussions with the Tamil Nadu-based TVK. Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Sunday, Palaniswami, commonly known as EPS, addressed speculations about potential political alignments ahead of the upcoming elections.
Clarification on Alliance Speculations
When questioned about the possibility of TVK joining the AIADMK-BJP front, EPS responded unequivocally. He emphasized that neither the AIADMK nor its alliance leaders have held any talks with TVK. "So, the question of that leader joining us does not arise," he told reporters, dismissing rumors of last-minute attempts to draw TVK into the NDA fold. This statement comes amid widespread speculation about political realignments in Tamil Nadu.
Openness to New Alliances
Despite the denial regarding TVK, EPS indicated that the door remains open for other parties to join the AIADMK-BJP coalition. He highlighted that the possibility of more parties aligning with the front is still under consideration, suggesting a strategic approach to broadening the alliance base ahead of the polls.
Formation of Key Committees
In preparation for the 2026 elections, the AIADMK has taken proactive steps by establishing several crucial committees. Hours before the Election Commission of India announced the poll schedule, the party set up:
- A seat-sharing committee comprising senior leaders K P Munusamy, Dindigul C Sreenivasan, S P Velumani, and B Valarmathi.
- A manifesto preparation committee to outline the party's vision and policies.
The seat-sharing panel is expected to initiate formal talks soon with AIADMK's allies, including the BJP and the PMK faction led by Anbumani Ramadoss.
Revamp of Governing Council
Additionally, the AIADMK has revamped its governing council to streamline operations. Edappadi K Palaniswami will chair this council, with presidium chairman A Tamil Magan Hussain and senior leaders such as K P Munusamy, Dindigul C Sreenivasan, S P Velumani, B Valarmathi, P Venugopal, A Justin Selvaraj, and I S Inbadurai serving as members.
Specialized Committees for Election Strategy
To ensure a comprehensive election strategy, the party has formed separate committees to handle:
- Legal issues, addressing any electoral disputes or compliance matters.
- Campaign planning, focusing on outreach and voter engagement.
- Media coordination, managing communications and public relations.
These moves underscore the AIADMK's commitment to a well-organized and strategic approach as it gears up for the 2026 electoral battle, amidst ongoing political dynamics in Tamil Nadu.
