AIADMK EPS Starts Candidate Selection for Assembly Elections

AIADMK Leader Edappadi K Palaniswami Initiates Candidate Selection Process for Assembly Elections

In a significant political development, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has commenced the crucial process of identifying and finalizing potential candidates for the upcoming assembly election in Tamil Nadu. This strategic move underscores the party's preparation for the electoral battle ahead.

Intensive Review Meetings with District Secretaries

On Wednesday, EPS conducted a comprehensive review meeting with district secretaries at the AIADMK headquarters in Chennai. The meeting, which lasted nearly one hour, focused on assessing the party's ground-level readiness and campaign strategies. Following this session, EPS summoned select district secretaries to his camp office on Greenways Road for further discussions aimed at finalizing the candidate list for their respective districts.

One-on-One Discussions with Key Leaders

AIADMK functionaries revealed that EPS held individual meetings with several prominent district secretaries. These included former minister K Kamaraj from Tiruvarur, M Sekar representing Thanjavur (central), and M Rethinasamy of Thanjavur (west). The primary agenda of these discussions was to evaluate potential candidates for the assembly segments within their districts.

Financial Capability as a Deciding Factor

A key aspect of the candidate selection process was the emphasis on financial strength. EPS specifically sought details on prospective candidates' ability to fund their own election campaigns. This financial capability was highlighted as one of the critical deciding factors, alongside other considerations such as the aspirants' popularity within their constituencies and unwavering loyalty to the party high command.

Campaign Intensification and Public Outreach

During the initial review meeting, EPS instructed all district secretaries to ramp up door-to-door campaigning efforts. To support this initiative, handbills listing the 15 major announcements made by EPS were distributed to the district secretaries. They were directed to share these materials extensively with the public to enhance voter engagement and awareness.

Party Spokesperson Addresses Alliance Dynamics and Criticism

After the meeting, AIADMK organizing secretary and spokesperson D Jayakumar addressed reporters, asserting that unlike the DMK-Congress alliance, there is "no confusion" within the AIADMK-led NDA front. When questioned about EPS's potential visit to Delhi to meet BJP leaders, Jayakumar stated, "There is nothing wrong in such a trip or meeting. Our alliance leaders maintain cordial relations."

Jayakumar also took a sharp swipe at TVK leader Vijay for his recent criticism of the AIADMK at a Thanjavur event. Dismissing Vijay as a "mere actor delivering dialogues written by Aadhav Arjuna and Arun Raj", he added, "They are directing him." Jayakumar further challenged Vijay to face the media directly and hold an open press conference, cautioning him to refrain from criticizing the AIADMK.

This candidate selection process marks a pivotal step in the AIADMK's electoral strategy, blending financial pragmatism with grassroots mobilization as the party gears up for the assembly polls.
