Trichy Voters Express Fury Over AIADMK's Infrastructure Oversights in Election Manifesto
The AIADMK's recently released election manifesto has sparked significant discontent among residents of Trichy, who are expressing deep frustration over the opposition party's failure to address key infrastructure demands across the city's nine constituencies. The document, which outlines the party's vision and promises, has been criticized as a major disappointment for the region, ignoring both long-standing and urgent development needs.
Critical Highway Safety and Urban Projects Missing
One of the most glaring omissions highlighted by locals is the absence of any commitment to construct service roads along the 14.5-kilometer stretch of the Trichy-Thanjavur national highway. This highway has been the site of frequent and often fatal accidents, making the lack of safety measures a pressing concern. Additionally, fresh demands aimed at improving Trichy's urban infrastructure have been completely neglected in the manifesto.
While the manifesto does include a few general proposals, such as cost-friendly residential apartments for middle-class families, a police welfare hospital, and the Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar rivers interlinking project, these are not specific to Trichy and offer little solace to residents. The existing defence industrial corridor, where Trichy serves as a node since 2019, is mentioned, but this does not represent new development for the city.
Residents Voice Disappointment Over Ignored Demands
Ghouse Baig, a prominent consumer rights activist from Trichy, voiced the community's frustration, stating, "The opposition party seems to be non-reactive to key infrastructure demands and development-oriented projects of Trichy. For a long time, a separate TNSTC division for Trichy and inclusion in metro rail proposals were raised to streamline urban commute challenges, but AIADMK has ignored such demands in the manifesto."
Further compounding the issue, three elevated road projects designed to decongest Trichy city have been pending for the last five years. The manifesto fails to address these road transport challenges or propose any solutions, leaving residents to contend with ongoing traffic woes.
Manifesto Committee Meetings Yield No Results
Despite a committee tasked with drafting the election manifesto holding public meetings in Trichy several months ago, locals claim that their submitted demands have not been reflected in the final document. K Rajendran, general secretary of the Federation for Retrieval of Trichy Palpannai–Thuvakudi Service Road, expressed his dismay, saying, "We met senior AIADMK functionaries and handed out our demand for service roads on Trichy-Thanjavur NH, but the infrastructure section in the manifesto did not even make a passing reference."
This oversight has led to widespread anger among Trichy's electorate, who feel their voices have been sidelined in the political process. The manifesto's lack of specificity and actionable plans for the region raises questions about the party's commitment to addressing local development issues as the election approaches.
