Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) workers staged a protest in Tarn Taran on Wednesday, slamming the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over its alleged failures on various fronts. The protest, held at the local bus stand, saw a large turnout of party supporters carrying placards and raising slogans against the state government.
Key Grievances Highlighted
The demonstrators accused the AAP government of failing to address critical issues such as drug abuse, unemployment, and law and order. SAD leaders alleged that the ruling party had broken its promises made during the 2022 assembly elections. They specifically pointed to the rising drug menace in the state, which they claimed had worsened under the current administration.
Demand for Immediate Action
Addressing the gathering, senior SAD leaders demanded immediate measures to curb drug trafficking and provide employment opportunities for the youth. They also criticized the government for its handling of the agrarian crisis and promised to intensify their agitation if their demands were not met.
The protest concluded with a march through the main market area, causing minor traffic disruptions. Police were present to maintain order, and no untoward incident was reported.
