Akhilesh Yadav slams UP govt over SIT for Ram Temple donations, says BJP setting up SITs not IITs
Akhilesh slams UP govt over SIT for Ram Temple donations

Lucknow: Taking a dig at the Uttar Pradesh government for establishing a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of misappropriation of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said it is unfortunate that instead of setting up IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), the BJP government is busy setting up SITs.

SP's Allegations on Donation Misuse

The SP first flagged allegations of misappropriation of donations at the Ram Temple over a week ago, describing the fiasco as an insult to Sanatan Dharma, which has hurt the sentiments of crores of Sanatanis across the world. Both Akhilesh Yadav and former minister Pawan Pandey, who hails from Ayodhya, had been emphatically and repeatedly raising the issue since then.

While the BJP government in UP and at the Centre maintained a studied silence on the issue, the secretary of the Ram Temple Teerth Kshetra Trust, Champat Rai, then issued a clarification claiming that accounts of donations were being screened and nothing “worth mentioning” had come to the fore by then.

Akhilesh's Warning on Democracy

Addressing party functionaries at SP headquarters in Lucknow, Akhilesh said the BJP is a threat to democracy and wants to destroy the democratic set-up once and for all. “It is SP’s responsibility to save democracy. Otherwise, the 2027 Assembly elections in UP will be the last elections,” Akhilesh said.

“The 2027 polls will be the elections to save democracy. Party functionaries and cadres will have to put their best foot forward with all the energy and determination they have to save democracy,” said Akhilesh, asking his cadres to reach out to the people at the ground level and appraise them about how the BJP government has failed to provide employment, check corruption and crime against women, and contain spiralling prices of essential commodities.
