Akhilesh Yadav Confronts BJP Over Fuel Crisis Management

In a sharp political critique, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday directly challenged Bharatiya Janata Party functionaries to engage with citizens enduring long queues at gas stations across Uttar Pradesh. He asserted that the current scarcity of LPG, petrol, and diesel is a deliberate strategy to generate profits by enabling black marketing and price hikes.

Absence of BJP Workers During Crisis

Akhilesh Yadav questioned the visibility of BJP representatives, stating, "Functionaries and workers of the world's largest political party, as the BJP claims to be, are missing from action. They are nowhere to be seen. Why are they not reaching out to people standing in long queues outside LPG distribution centres and petrol pumps? This is the time when BJP workers and their support group should reach out to people in this hour of crisis. Why have they removed the BJP flags from their SUVs?"

Alleged Modus Operandi of Creating Shortages

The SP chief elaborated on what he described as the BJP's exploitation of adversity. "Whenever the BJP talks of 'opportunity in adversity', one should understand the real meaning of it and its chronology," Akhilesh said. He outlined a sequence:

  1. Triggering panic by publicising 'shortage' and 'scarcity' to exacerbate the actual ground crisis, forcing common people into long queues.
  2. Blaming external factors for the situation.
  3. Increasing commodity prices rapidly as desperation grows among the public.
  4. Spreading rumours of worsening conditions to encourage stockpiling, which leads to black marketing and exorbitant price increases for profit.

Historical Pattern of Shortages

Akhilesh Yadav claimed this method was previously used during the recent fertilizer shortage and is now being applied to LPG, petrol, and diesel. He alleged rampant black marketing of fertilizer bags, with farmers waiting days in queues for limited supplies at government depots. Additionally, he accused the government of quietly reducing fertilizer bag contents from 45 kg to 40 kg.

Deputy CM's Offer as Evidence

Without naming individuals, Akhilesh referenced a Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister's offer to provide LPG cylinders to those facing shortages. "This proves that black marketing is rampant, otherwise where can he get the cylinder from?" he argued, suggesting the offer implies availability through illicit means.

Conclusion on BJP's Crisis Exploitation

In his final remarks, Akhilesh Yadav asserted, "For the BJP and its support group, the real meaning of 'opportunity in adversity' means minting money through black marketing during crisis. False claims of relief are only adding to the anger and disgust of the people." His statements highlight ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh amid resource shortages.
