Amit Shah Set to Flag Off BJP's Rath Yatra in Bengal's South 24 Parganas
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to be present at the launch of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) rath yatra at Raidighi in South 24 Parganas district on March 1, according to sources within the Bengal BJP unit. The party leadership has been in active communication with Shah's office to finalize his participation in this significant political event.
Strategic Focus on Weak Organizational Areas
Insiders reveal that Amit Shah has specifically chosen South 24 Parganas for this launch because the BJP has historically struggled to make substantial electoral gains in this region. During the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress secured a dominant victory by winning 30 out of the 31 seats in this area, with the remaining seat going to the Indian Secular Front (ISF).
A senior Bengal BJP leader emphasized, "We are deliberately focusing our efforts on areas where the party organization has been relatively weak. In Raidighi, for instance, the BJP managed to increase its vote share by approximately 30% between the 2016 and 2021 elections, indicating growing support that we aim to build upon."
Nationwide Rath Yatra Campaign with Top Leadership
The BJP's rath yatra initiative will commence simultaneously from nine different locations across the state, each flagged off by prominent party leaders. Alongside Amit Shah, other senior figures including Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, Dharmendra Pradhan, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Devendra Fadnavis, Nitin Nabin, and Smriti Irani are scheduled to launch these processions.
This extensive campaign is designed to mobilize support and strengthen the party's grassroots presence in West Bengal ahead of crucial electoral battles.
Massive Public Outreach Planned
As part of this ambitious political drive, the BJP has outlined plans to conduct 64 large-scale public rallies and an additional 300 smaller gatherings throughout the state. These events are strategically organized to culminate in a grand finale at the Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata.
The climax of the rath yatra will feature a major address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is expected to rally party workers and supporters, setting the stage for the BJP's electoral strategy in West Bengal.
