The Amritsar police conducted a late-night raid at the residence of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) councillor Inderjit Singh Pandori on Thursday, in connection with an assault case dating back two weeks. This development comes amid escalating controversy surrounding the arrest of another party activist, Jobanpreet Singh, by the Majitha police.
Details of the Raid
Pandori, who serves as the president of the party's Backward Classes (BC) Wing in the Amritsar urban unit, is considered a close associate of senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The raid was carried out by a team of police officials late at night, though no immediate arrests were made.
Allegations of Assault
The case stems from a complaint filed by Lakhwinder Singh, who alleged that he and his brother were intercepted and physically assaulted by Pandori and four other individuals on May 19. The complainant stated that the attack was unprovoked and left them with injuries. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Political Reactions
The raid has intensified political tensions in the region, with SAD leaders accusing the police of targeting party members unfairly. Earlier this week, the arrest of Jobanpreet Singh had already sparked protests from the party, which claimed that the actions were politically motivated. The police, however, maintain that the raids are part of routine investigations into criminal complaints.
Further investigations are underway, and authorities have stated that they will take appropriate action based on the evidence collected during the raid.
