Andhra Pradesh Minister Addresses Fuel Panic Buying Concerns
In response to widespread panic buying of fuel across Andhra Pradesh, Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar issued a firm assurance on Wednesday that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or cooking gas anywhere in the state. The minister directly addressed rising public concerns triggered by social media rumors, urging citizens to remain calm and avoid unnecessary stockpiling.
Minister Urges Public Not to Panic Over Fuel Availability
"While panic buying is being witnessed in several areas, there is absolutely no scarcity of petrol, diesel, or LPG in Andhra Pradesh," Manohar stated clearly during his announcement. He explained that many consumers have been making advance bookings for gas cylinders primarily due to misinformation circulating online, creating an artificial sense of crisis.
The minister emphasized that adequate fuel stocks are readily available to meet all normal demand patterns throughout the state. He specifically noted that the Central government has already increased the supply of gas for commercial purposes, and state authorities are implementing additional measures to ensure smooth distribution channels, particularly to essential establishments like restaurants and educational institutions.
Enhanced Monitoring and Enforcement Measures Implemented
To further streamline fuel supply and prevent misuse, authorities have established strict monitoring mechanisms across distribution networks. One significant measure includes mandatory one-time password (OTP) verification for all cylinder deliveries, creating an additional layer of security and accountability in the supply chain.
Highlighting the government's commitment to combating illegal practices, Manohar revealed that officials have registered over 800 cases related to fuel distribution irregularities and seized 3,540 cylinders involved in black marketing operations. "Strict action will be taken against those indulging in the illegal sale of LPG cylinders. Ensuring that cylinders do not reach unauthorised persons is our responsibility," the minister declared firmly.
Long-Term Energy Solutions and Policy Initiatives
Looking beyond immediate concerns, Manohar announced that the government is developing a comprehensive new policy to promote piped natural gas (PNG) connections in urban areas throughout Andhra Pradesh. This initiative aims to encourage city consumers to transition from traditional LPG cylinders to more convenient and efficient piped gas systems, thereby reducing overall dependence on cylinder-based fuel delivery.
Additionally, state authorities are actively promoting alternative cooking solutions as part of a broader energy diversification strategy. These alternatives include:
- Solar-powered cooking systems
- Induction stoves and cooktops
- Other renewable energy cooking technologies
The minister's comprehensive address sought to reassure the public while outlining both immediate response measures and long-term energy planning initiatives designed to create more resilient and sustainable fuel distribution systems across Andhra Pradesh.
