Andhra Pradesh Government Grants Major Relief to Livestock Sector
In a landmark decision aimed at bolstering the rural economy, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced a significant exemption for livestock activities from development and betterment charges. This policy shift recognizes dairy farming, sheep and goat rearing, piggery, and poultry as essential components of the rural-urban economic fabric, rather than treating them as commercial real estate ventures.
Financial Burden Lifted for Farmers and Entrepreneurs
The exemption is expected to substantially alleviate the financial strain on farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs across the state. Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) department, highlighted the government's dedication to creating a supportive regulatory environment for priority sectors like livestock. He stated that the exemption and fee rationalization will drastically cut down compliance costs, paving the way for more organized farming practices.
Kumar further noted that this reform is in line with the state's vision of enhancing ease of doing business, strengthening rural livelihoods, and embedding livestock development into comprehensive urban strategies.
