Andhra Pradesh Government Unveils Comprehensive Traffic Solution for Anandapuram Junction
In a significant development for regional infrastructure, Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao has announced that the Andhra Pradesh state government is implementing concrete measures to establish a permanent solution to the chronic traffic congestion plaguing Anandapuram junction. Located approximately 25 kilometres from Visakhapatnam city, this critical transportation node has been experiencing severe traffic bottlenecks and hours-long gridlocks due to its strategic position and commercial activities.
Strategic Importance and Current Challenges
The Anandapuram junction serves as a vital access point connecting multiple major routes, including the Srikakulam–Vizianagaram corridors, Visakhapatnam highway, and Anakapalli highway. Compounding the traffic issues is the presence of a bustling flower market at the junction, which attracts significant commercial activity and pedestrian movement. MLA Srinivasa Rao emphasized that the junction's importance will increase substantially when the Bhogapuram international airport becomes operational within the next three months, making traffic management an urgent priority.
Immediate and Long-Term Infrastructure Plans
Following a detailed inspection of the junction and nearby flower markets conducted on Friday with district collector MN Harendhira Prasad, the MLA outlined a multi-phase approach to address the congestion. Within the next week to ten days, authorities will commence work to ensure smooth vehicular movement from the city and Anakapalli highway toward the upcoming airport, with completion expected within two months.
For the long-term solution, the government has approved a comprehensive plan that includes:
- Road widening at Anandapuram junction to increase capacity
- Construction of a proposed flyover with administrative approval already granted and expected completion within two years
- Consolidation of nearby land parcels to develop modern infrastructure including a contemporary flower market, vegetable market, spacious parking facilities, and cold storage infrastructure
Interim Measures and Market Relocation
To provide immediate relief from current traffic pressure, officials are exploring the relocation of the existing flower market to a designated 95-cent site near a Rythu Bazaar. The possibility of utilizing adjacent land belonging to the SC Corporation is also under active consideration. As an interim measure, authorities have been advised to undertake expansion works beneath the proposed flyover location to temporarily improve traffic flow.
The inspection was attended by joint collector G. Vidyadhari along with officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), police department, and revenue departments, indicating coordinated governmental effort. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the state government's commitment to addressing infrastructure challenges proactively, particularly in anticipation of increased traffic volumes following the Bhogapuram airport inauguration.
