Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is set to witness an unusual weather contrast over the next few days. Hot and humid conditions will grip Rayalaseema and south coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), while thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected to strike north coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP).
Heatwave Alert for Rayalaseema
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for isolated places in Rayalaseema on Tuesday, April 28. Hot, humid, and uncomfortable conditions are forecast for SCAP. Simultaneously, isolated places in NCAP and Rayalaseema will experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning.
Extended Forecast
Thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in NCAP, Yanam, and Rayalaseema. Hot, humid, and uncomfortable weather is expected at isolated places in SCAP from April 29 (Wednesday) to May 1 (Friday).
Scorching Temperatures Recorded
Rayalaseema and parts of SCAP are already in the grip of scorching temperatures, with mercury soaring past 42 degrees Celsius in several locations on Monday. High temperatures and humidity were recorded in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP). Jangamaheswarapuram in Palnadu district of SCAP was the hottest spot on Monday, April 27, at 42.7 degrees Celsius. Kadapa followed at 42.6 degrees Celsius, Kurnool at 42.5 degrees Celsius, Nandyal at 42.4 degrees Celsius, Anantapur at 42.1 degrees Celsius, Nandigama at 40.7 degrees Celsius, Nellore and Tirupati at 40.4 degrees Celsius each, and Amaravati at 40.2 degrees Celsius.
An appreciable rise of 2.1 to 4.0 degrees Celsius was observed at one or two places in Rayalaseema. No large change of minus 2.0 to plus 2.0 degrees Celsius was noted at many places in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on Monday.
Temperature Trend
The IMD forecast stated that maximum temperatures will show no large change over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from April 28 to May 1.
