Former BJP Leader Alleges Growing Alliance Discord in Puducherry Campaign
Former Bharatiya Janata Party state president K Annamalai has made significant allegations regarding political dynamics within Tamil Nadu's ruling coalition. Speaking to journalists at Coimbatore Airport on Wednesday, Annamalai claimed there is a visible and growing rift between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Indian National Congress within the Secular Progressive Alliance.
Campaign Silence Between Allies Raises Questions
Annamalai pointed to the final phase of campaigning in the Union Territory of Puducherry as evidence of this discord. He highlighted that both Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and DMK president Chief Minister M K Stalin conducted separate campaign events without mentioning each other's names, despite being political allies in the territory.
"Both Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and DMK president and chief minister M K Stalin didn't mention each other's name during their separate campaigning in Puducherry, though both are allies in the Union Territory," Annamalai stated during his media interaction.
Questions About Rahul Gandhi's Tamil Nadu Engagement
The former BJP leader further criticized Rahul Gandhi's political engagement in Tamil Nadu, describing him as "an uninterested and disinterested politician" when it comes to the state's affairs. Annamalai provided a specific example to support his claim.
"Rahul Gandhi, who flew to Coimbatore Airport from Palakkad recently, did not even consider campaigning for his party's candidate in one of the constituencies, which is Singanallur, just next to the airport," he revealed.
Security Concerns for Vijay's Political Rally
Shifting focus to another political development, Annamalai raised serious concerns about security arrangements for Tamil actor and TVK leader Vijay's upcoming political rally. He urged the Election Commission to deploy additional security forces to manage what he described as massive expected crowds.
The BJP leader questioned whether state officials were operating independently or under potential DMK influence regarding permissions for the rally. "The ECI must act with integrity and grant necessary permissions for his campaign without bias," he emphasized, calling for transparent and fair election management.
Personal Challenge Regarding Election Integrity
In a bold move addressing his own political record, Annamalai directly challenged critics and sceptics to investigate his past electoral conduct. He specifically referenced his candidacy in the Aravakurichi constituency and made an unusual offer to facilitate such inquiry.
"I challenge anyone to find a single instance where I distributed money to voters. I will personally bear the bus fare for anyone willing to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry," he declared, presenting this as evidence of his commitment to clean election practices.
The former state BJP president's comments come at a crucial time in Tamil Nadu politics, with multiple electoral dynamics unfolding simultaneously. His allegations about alliance discord, questions about campaign security, and personal defense against corruption allegations represent significant interventions in the current political discourse.
