Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Urges Finance Department to Drive State's Economic Growth with Strategic Plans
In a high-level review meeting held at the secretariat in Vijayawada on Thursday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu issued clear directives to the finance department, emphasizing the need for comprehensive micro- and macro-level strategies to meet the state's gross state domestic product (GSDP) objectives. The chief minister underscored the critical importance of enhancing productivity across all sectors to unlock the full economic potential of Andhra Pradesh.
Focus on Achieving 15% Growth Rate Through Effective Planning
Naidu stressed that short-, medium-, and long-term plans must be executed efficiently down to the field level to achieve a robust 15% growth rate. He highlighted that all government departments should prioritize productivity improvements, leveraging available resources to maximize output. The chief minister pointed out that adequate water and power supplies are being provided to agriculture and industries, urging stakeholders to utilize these resources optimally to boost production and economic returns.
Addressing Financial Challenges and Power Tariff Decisions
Despite facing severe financial constraints, the state government has refrained from increasing power tariffs, a decision aimed at easing the burden on citizens. Naidu revealed that the current coalition administration is also managing a significant power burden of ₹4,600 crore, inherited from decisions made by the previous government. This move reflects the government's commitment to maintaining stability while navigating economic pressures.
Revenue Generation and Project Completion for Wealth Creation
The chief minister directed revenue-generating departments to meet their targets without imposing any additional financial strain on the public. He expressed confidence that the completion of key projects, such as Amaravati and Polavaram, will open new avenues for wealth creation and economic development. Naidu assured that there is no shortage of funds for priority initiatives, and with support from the Central government, these projects will be expedited to accelerate overall progress.
Leveraging Central Schemes and Welfare Programs
Naidu emphasized the need to fast-track development projects through central schemes like Purvodaya and SASCI, which can provide additional resources and momentum. Welfare schemes will continue to be implemented in accordance with the welfare calendar, ensuring that social benefits reach the intended beneficiaries. Officials were instructed to focus on securing funds due to the state under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, highlighting the importance of financial entitlements for sustained growth.
Revival of Anna Canteens and Investment Attraction Efforts
Referring to the Anna Canteens, Naidu noted that the previous regime had shut them down, but despite ongoing constraints, the current government is providing meals to the needy through 269 canteens across the state. This initiative underscores the administration's dedication to social welfare amidst economic challenges. Additionally, the chief minister called for the adoption of efficient and simplified processes across departments to attract investments and increase revenues, fostering a business-friendly environment.
