Andhra Pradesh Government Disburses Rs 7,059 Crore in Long-Pending Dues to Employees and Pensioners

In a significant move aimed at alleviating financial stress, the Andhra Pradesh state government has announced the release of Rs 7,059 crore towards long-pending dues for employees and pensioners. This decision has been warmly welcomed by employee representatives, who describe it as a commendable step forward.

Financial Relief for Thousands of Employees

Onteru Srinivasulu Reddy, the state honorary president of the teachers' associations coordination forum, expressed appreciation for Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's initiative. Speaking to the media in Vijayawada on Friday, Reddy highlighted that this disbursement addresses dues that have accumulated over several years, providing much-needed financial relief to thousands of serving and retired employees across the state.

The breakdown of the released funds is as follows:

  • Provident Fund: Rs 1,847.83 crore
  • Gratuity: Rs 3,411.03 crore
  • Leave Encashment for Retired Employees: Rs 1,800 crore
  • Additional Surrendered Leave Benefits for Police Personnel: Rs 223.47 crore

Reddy emphasized that these payments will significantly ease the financial burden on employees, many of whom have been struggling with delayed benefits.

Unresolved Issues and Future Demands

Despite this positive development, Srinivasulu Reddy pointed out that several critical issues remain unresolved. He noted that multiple dearness allowance (DA) instalments are still pending, which has severely impacted the financial stability of employees. The delay in these DA payments has compounded the economic challenges faced by the workforce.

Additionally, the postponement in announcing the pay revision commission (PRC) has raised concerns among employees. The current pay structure has already exceeded its stipulated term, leading to uncertainties and dissatisfaction. Reddy urged the government to expedite the release of pending DA arrears and constitute the PRC at the earliest to provide comprehensive relief.

"While the clearance of dues is a positive step, addressing DA and PRC issues will further strengthen the financial security of employees," he stated.

Call for Further Government Action

Srinivasulu Reddy added that by taking these additional measures, the government can reinforce its commitment to employee welfare and demonstrate its intent to prioritise the interests of its workforce. He stressed that resolving these outstanding matters is crucial for maintaining morale and ensuring long-term financial security for all employees and pensioners in Andhra Pradesh.

The release of Rs 7,059 crore marks a significant milestone, but employee representatives continue to advocate for swift action on pending DA instalments and the establishment of the PRC to achieve full financial justice.
