AP High Court Enforces Immediate Transfer of 50 Group-1 Officials
In a decisive move, the Andhra Pradesh High Court has compelled the state government to transfer 50 officials from their current positions, following a stern rebuke of Chief Secretary K Vijayanand for failing to implement earlier directives. The officials, all successful candidates from the 2018 Group-1 examination, have been instructed to report to the General Administration Department (GAD) without delay.
High Court's Sharp Criticism of Chief Secretary
Earlier on Wednesday, the High Court expressed strong disapproval towards Chief Secretary K Vijayanand for not adhering to its orders regarding the Group-1 issue. The bench questioned Vijayanand on why the transfers had not been executed despite clear instructions issued on February 11. In a pointed remark, the court asked whether the chief secretary understood the meaning of "forthwith" and highlighted concerns that if the state's top official disregards court orders, it sets a poor example for subordinate officers.
Government's Compliance with Court Directives
Following the court's intervention, Chief Secretary K Vijayanand issued orders directing district collectors, the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA), and the Commissioner of Disaster Management (CDMA) to relieve 25 officials working in the revenue department. These officials are to be replaced through internal arrangements, with relief orders to be communicated to GAD via email and WhatsApp.
Similarly, Director General of Police (DGP) Harish Kumar Gupta initiated proceedings to transfer 25 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs), ordering them to report immediately to the police headquarters. All transferred officers have been advised to await further instructions while in their new assignments.
