Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has confidently dismissed any potential challenge from the newly formed opposition coalition led by Congress and seven other political parties ahead of the crucial assembly elections. This declaration comes immediately after the Mahagathbandhan's failure to stop the NDA alliance in the recent Bihar assembly elections.
CM Sarma's Unshaken Confidence
The Chief Minister made his position clear by stating that the opposition coalition formed in Assam serves a different purpose rather than being primarily election-focused. "We are not worried at all about the opposition coalition formed here," Sarma asserted, displaying remarkable confidence in his party's position.
He went even further with his predictions, claiming that every single member of every single household will vote for BJP in the upcoming elections. The CM added that "the results in Assam will be beyond expectation", indicating his belief in a sweeping victory for the ruling party.
Ground Reality vs Hotel Meetings
Sarma drew a sharp contrast between the campaigning approaches of different political parties. He accused opposition parties of being disconnected from ground realities, stating they are "busy holding meetings in hotels" while NDA leaders and workers are relentlessly working on the ground across the state.
In a particularly striking remark, the Chief Minister described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as "the brand ambassador for BJP", claiming that the saffron party wins seats wherever Gandhi campaigns. This unusual statement highlights the BJP's confidence in their electoral strategy.
Bihar Results Echo in Assam
State BJP president Dilip Saikia emphasized that the Bihar election results would significantly boost BJP workers' morale in Assam. He credited the development initiatives of the central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership since 2014 for ensuring inclusive development across all regions of the country.
Saikia stated that "the massive victory of the Narendra Modi-led BJP and Nitish Kumar-led JDU alliance has once again established the strength of nationalism in Bihar". He emphasized that people have broken all barriers to bless the BJP-JDU alliance through EVMs.
Congress Counters BJP Claims
Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi presented a completely different perspective, asserting that people belonging to different tribes in Assam are ready to bid adieu to what he described as the dictatorship of the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government.
Gogoi expressed certainty that people would bring a government in the state under Congress leadership, directly challenging the BJP's confident predictions. He also pointed out that there are significant differences between the elections in Bihar and Assam, making the opposition alliance optimistic about their prospects.
Meanwhile, the Assam Pradesh BJP created controversy with a post on X that appeared to target political opponents. Without naming anyone specifically, they wrote: "We sincerely apologize for upsetting the 'national child' on Children's Day. Truly unfortunate."
As political temperatures rise in Assam, both major alliances are preparing for a fierce electoral battle, with each side expressing complete confidence in their ability to secure victory in the upcoming assembly elections.
