Varanasi: In a tragic incident of familial discord over property, Jagdish Vishwakarma (70), a resident of Karsada village under Mehnajpur police station in Azamgarh district, allegedly killed his younger brother Omprakash (65) by striking his head with a bamboo stick.

Incident Details

The altercation occurred on Tuesday evening, escalating from a long-standing property dispute between the two brothers and their families. During the scuffle, Jagdish dealt a severe blow to Omprakash's head with a bamboo stick, causing him to lose consciousness. Family members and villagers immediately rushed Omprakash to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police Action

On Wednesday morning, Azamgarh (Lalganj) CO Bhupesh Pandey confirmed that Jagdish was arrested near the Gangwal Panchayat building. The bamboo stick used in the crime was recovered. A named FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's wife, Shanti Vishwakarma. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

CO Pandey stated that the murder stemmed from a property division dispute that had been ongoing for a long time. Initial investigations revealed that both brothers attacked each other during the altercation, but Jagdish's blow proved fatal.
