BCY Party President Launches Indefinite Hunger Strike in Mangalagiri for Backward Classes Rights
In a bold move to champion the cause of Backward Classes (BCs), Bodde Ramachandra Yadav, the president of the Bharath Chaitanya Yuvajana (BCY) Party, initiated an indefinite hunger strike on Saturday in Mangalagiri. Declaring his readiness to "lay down my life" for the rights of BC communities, Yadav's protest, titled BC Dharma Deeksha, commenced at the Pule Mandal Bhavan, drawing significant attention from party leaders, BC associations, and supporters across the region.
A Broader Social Movement Against Decades of Injustice
Addressing the gathering, Ramachandra Yadav emphasized that this agitation is not merely an individual effort but a comprehensive social movement aimed at rectifying what he described as decades of injustice faced by BCs. "This is not my individual fight. It is the struggle of the oppressed and weaker sections who have been cheated for generations. I am ready to lay down my life for the rights of BCs," he stated passionately. The hunger strike is set to continue indefinitely until the government addresses the community's key demands, with Yadav urging participants to maintain peace and unity, stating, "This is a fight for our rights. No one should resort to anger or violence. Our unity is our strength, and only through unity can we achieve justice."
Key Demands Outlined for BC Empowerment
The BCY chief outlined five major demands to secure the rights and welfare of Backward Classes:
- Enactment of a BC Protection Act: Immediate legislation to provide constitutional safeguards for BC rights and benefits, ensuring legal protection against discrimination.
- Land Allocation for Development: Allocation of at least 1,000 acres of land in the capital region to promote the social and economic development of BC communities, fostering self-sufficiency and growth.
- Budgetary Support for BC Corporations: Adequate financial backing for BC corporations, addressing the ineffectiveness of many welfare institutions due to a lack of funds and resources.
- Comprehensive Caste Census: A scientific and thorough caste census to ensure fair and population-based reservation policies, providing accurate data for equitable representation.
- Implementation of 44% Reservation: Enforcement of 44% reservation for BCs in education, employment, and legislative bodies, arguing that proportional representation is essential to correct historical imbalances and promote inclusivity.
Call for Widespread Support and Political Implications
Ramachandra Yadav appealed to BC organisations, intellectuals, youth, and civil society groups to rally behind the movement, stating, "Every BC son and daughter should join this struggle for self-respect and future generations." The indefinite fast is anticipated to garner wider political attention in the coming days, potentially increasing pressure on the government to respond to these demands. As the protest unfolds, it highlights ongoing social and political dynamics in the region, with implications for governance and community rights.
