Bengaluru Lake Tragedy Claims Student Life, Search Continues for Missing Classmate

A heartbreaking incident unfolded near Kanakapura in Bengaluru South district on Wednesday evening. Two neighbors, both studying in II PU at a private college in Banashankari, are feared to have drowned in Kabbalu lake.

The body of one student, Santosh S from Konananakunte, was recovered on Thursday afternoon. Rescue teams continue searching for his classmate, B Dhanush, who remains missing.

Temple Visit Turns Tragic

The two young men visited the Kabbalu temple as part of a larger group. Twelve youths made the trip together, including nine students and three private company employees. They traveled on their two-wheelers for what should have been a routine outing.

After completing their temple visit, the group decided to go to the nearby lake. Some members of the group waded into the water but stopped when it reached their knees. Santosh and Dhanush, however, ventured further into the lake.

Sudden Slip into Deep Waters

Witnesses report that both students slipped suddenly while in the water. Their companions immediately raised the alarm. Police rushed to the spot upon receiving the alert and began search operations right away.

An investigating officer revealed concerning details about the waterbody. The lake measures more than 20 feet deep in certain areas. Authorities had recently removed silt from the lake, which may have altered the underwater terrain.

Ongoing Search Efforts

Rescue teams worked through Thursday to locate the missing students. They successfully recovered Santosh's body in the afternoon. The search for Dhanush continues as authorities and local communities hope for a positive outcome.

This tragic incident has shaken the Banashankari college community and the students' neighborhood. Both young men were pursuing their pre-university education and had their whole futures ahead of them.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the drowning. They are speaking with all members of the group who witnessed the unfortunate event. The depth of the lake and recent silt removal operations are being examined as potential factors.

Local authorities have reminded citizens about water safety, especially around natural water bodies with unpredictable depths. The Kabbalu lake area has now become the focus of both rescue operations and safety concerns.
