Major Connectivity Milestone Achieved for West Bengaluru
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has successfully completed the construction of the railway underbridge at Challaghatta, marking a significant advancement in Bengaluru's long-awaited arterial road project. This crucial development is set to dramatically improve connectivity across the city's western suburbs, addressing longstanding traffic congestion issues.
Seamless Link Between Key Transport Routes
Once operational, the new corridor will establish a smooth and efficient connection between Magadi Road and the Bengaluru–Mysuru highway (NH-275) through the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout. This integration is expected to substantially reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters who navigate these busy routes.
Engineering Marvel Beneath Active Railway Tracks
The Challaghatta railway underbridge represented one of the most technically challenging aspects of the entire project. Construction teams had to execute precise engineering work beneath an active railway line that serves the vital Bengaluru-Mysuru connection, requiring meticulous planning and execution.
Project officials revealed that the construction involved a sophisticated 40-metre box-pushing operation, with each concrete box weighing approximately 1,200 metric tonnes. Remarkably, this complex phase was completed within just three months through continuous round-the-clock construction efforts.
Comprehensive 11-Kilometer Arterial Road Development
The Major Arterial Road (MAR) project encompasses an extensive 11-kilometer stretch designed as a 100-metre-wide, 10-lane corridor. This includes six primary carriageway lanes and four dedicated service lanes specifically engineered to manage heavy traffic volumes efficiently.
Additional Infrastructure Enhancements
Beyond the railway underbridge, the BDA is concurrently constructing a vehicular overpass near Challaghatta. This additional structure will optimize movement between different blocks of the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout and contribute to smoother overall traffic flow throughout the area.
Strategic Integration with Broader Transport Network
This arterial road development forms an integral component of the proposed Peripheral Ring Road Phase-2 project, which aims to strengthen connectivity between key highways surrounding Bengaluru. The strategic positioning enhances the city's overall transportation framework.
Comprehensive Urban Planning Features
Project officials have confirmed that the development will incorporate several urban enhancement elements, including:
- A dedicated cycle track for sustainable transportation
- Tree-lined avenues for environmental benefits
- Comprehensive beautification work along the entire 11-kilometer stretch
These features will transform the corridor into one of Bengaluru's widest and most modern roadways, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal.
Anticipated Completion Timeline
With the most challenging components now successfully completed, officials project that the entire corridor will be fully operational by April. This timeline promises long-awaited relief for residents, motorists, and commuters throughout west Bengaluru, marking a significant milestone in the city's infrastructure development.
