Bihar CM Decision Nears as BJP Legislative Party Meeting Set

Bihar's Next Chief Minister to Be Decided in Crucial BJP Meeting

The political suspense surrounding Bihar's next chief minister is poised to conclude following a pivotal meeting of the BJP legislative party in Patna. The party is set to elect its leader, with the announcement expected to be made by Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who has been appointed as the central observer for this critical process.

Meeting Scheduled for Mid-April

The crucial gathering is likely to be convened on either April 14 or 15, marking a decisive moment in Bihar's political landscape. Chouhan, who was designated as central observer on Sunday, is scheduled to arrive in Patna on April 14 to oversee the proceedings.

His appointment signifies that the BJP has formally initiated the process of forming a new government in Bihar. This development comes just two days after outgoing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member, creating the vacancy at the state's helm.

Official Notification and Chouhan's Response

In an official notification issued on Sunday, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh stated, "The parliamentary board of the BJP has appointed Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union minister for agriculture and farmers welfare and rural development, as the central observer for the election of the leader of the BJP's legislative party in Bihar."

Responding to his new responsibility, Chouhan expressed his commitment to fulfilling the role with complete honesty and dedication. Speaking to reporters at Raisen in Madhya Pradesh, he emphasized, "I am a BJP worker. Whatever work is given to me, being a worker it is my duty to discharge it with full honesty and integrity."

He extended gratitude to the BJP leadership for entrusting him with this significant assignment, noting, "The party considered me capable of handling the responsibility, for which I remain thankful towards the party leadership."

Chouhan's Schedule and Political Implications

Chouhan confirmed that he would remain in Raisen district until April 13 in accordance with party instructions, as this date marks the conclusion of the local "Unnat Krishi Mela" (Advanced Agriculture Fair). Following this, he will travel to Patna on April 14 to commence his observer duties.

The election of the BJP legislature party leader represents a fundamental step toward establishing the new government in Bihar. According to sources within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the legislative party meeting is anticipated to occur shortly after Chouhan's arrival in Patna, either on April 14 or 15.

The outcome of this meeting will ultimately determine who assumes the role of Bihar's next chief minister, shaping the state's governance and political direction in the coming period.
