The Bihar government on Monday implemented a minor reshuffle of senior police officers, transferring nine IPS officers from the 2006 to 2018 batches and assigning additional responsibilities to some of them. The state home department issued a notification detailing the changes, which affect officers holding the ranks of inspector general (IG), deputy inspector general (DIG), and commandant.
Key Transfers and Postings
Pankaj Kumar Raj, a 2006 batch IG who was serving as IG of Civil Defence, has been posted as IG of the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB). He has also been given the additional charge of IG of Railways.
S Premlatha, also from the 2006 batch and previously IG of Technical Services and Communication, has been transferred to the pivotal role of IG of Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau. This position is crucial for enforcing prohibition and combating drug-related offenses.
Sanjay Kumar, a 2008 batch IG of the Special Branch, has been assigned the additional charge of the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP).
Deputy Inspector General Level Changes
Sudhir Kumar Porika, a 2010 batch DIG of Home Guards and Fire Services, has been moved to DIG of SCRB in Patna.
Sushant Kumar Saroj, a 2012 batch DIG of Traffic, has been posted as DIG of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Bihar. He will continue to hold the charge of the Traffic wing as an additional responsibility.
Deepak Ranjan, also a 2012 batch DIG who was serving at the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, has been shifted to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) as DIG.
Commandant Level Transfers
Kumar Gautam, a 2011 batch officer who recently returned from interstate deputation in the West Bengal cadre and was awaiting posting, has been appointed commandant of BSAP-5 in Patna.
Manish Kumar Sinha, a 2018 batch commandant of the Special Security Group (SSG), has been posted as commandant of the Mounted Special Armed Police in Ara.
Ajay Kumar, also from the 2018 batch and formerly commandant of BSAP-5, has been transferred as commandant of the Special Security Group (SSG) in Patna.
Officials stated that the reshuffle is intended to strengthen key policing, intelligence, and enforcement wings while ensuring better administrative coordination across departments.
