Bihar Police Launch Statewide Crackdown on Illegal LPG Trade
In a decisive move against the illegal storage and black marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), police in Bihar have conducted extensive raids across several districts, resulting in significant seizures and arrests. Over the past few days, authorities have confiscated a total of 419 LPG cylinders, registered 14 First Information Reports (FIRs), and apprehended 21 individuals involved in the illicit trade.
Patna Eateries Sealed for Misuse of Domestic Cylinders
On Wednesday, enforcement actions intensified in the state capital, with four restaurants in Patna being sealed for illegally using domestic LPG cylinders. The affected establishments were located in areas including Kankarbagh, Patna City, and Barh. In connection with these violations, five FIRs were lodged against the proprietors.
Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M addressed the media, stating, "Acting on the directions of DGP Vinay Kumar, investigations, raids, and enforcement of related laws have been intensified in all districts, with continuous monitoring at the police headquarters level. Simultaneously, cafes and restaurants are being inspected, and eateries found using domestic LPG cylinders illegally are being sealed."
Major Seizures and Arrests Across Districts
According to official data, the largest single seizure occurred in the Forbesganj police station area of Araria district, where 261 cylinders were recovered and two persons were arrested. In Saharsa district, police registered an FIR after seizing 112 cylinders and identifying one accused.
Additional operations have led to seizures and arrests in several other districts, including:
- Sheohar
- Madhepura
- Begusarai
- Saran
- Muzaffarpur
- Motihari
- Siwan
- Katihar
Ongoing Investigations and Legal Actions
The district magistrate further emphasized that regular inspections of gas dealers and distributors are underway. Any involvement in black marketing or negligence will result in immediate arrest and prosecution under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA).
Investigations are ongoing, with raids continuing in other districts to curb the illegal storage and black-market sale of LPG. Authorities are committed to ensuring compliance with regulations and preventing the misuse of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes.
